As part of the ongoing effort to provide access to the best scientific data available on the pyrethroid class of insecticides, the Pyrethroid Working Group has compiled a database of all aquatic toxicity studies for nine synthetic pyrethroids: bifenthrin, cyfluthrin, cyhalothrin, cypermethrin, deltamethrin, esfenvalerate, fenpropathrin, permethrin, and tefluthrin. These studies have been reviewed and evaluated to identify the most reliable toxicity values for each species tested.
Data were obtained from a variety of sources, including company-provided studies, open literature publications identified through bibliographic database searches, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s on-line database ECOTOX. Each publication or report was assigned a score of Acceptable (A), Qualified (Q), or Unusable (U) according to pre-established criteria. Information for each study rated A or Q was extracted from the documents for incorporation into the database. A bibliography of data sources is provided. PWG used a two-step process to select the most appropriate data for risk assessment purposes, following a set of specific criteria described in the metadata:
- A single result from each study was designated as the Key Value for that study
- All Key Values for a species were examined, and a single Species Final Value was selected
Results can be examined using standard spreadsheet search and filter functions. Data can be searched or filtered by:
