Pets and Livestock

Veterinarians depend on pyrethroids for protecting livestock, pets, and horses from disease, specifically such diseases as onchocerciasis, which is spread by biting flies. Pet owners rely on them to prevent fleas from infesting their dogs. Pyrethroids are found in flea collars and pet shampoos to protect dogs from ticks and fleas.

Note to Pet Owners

Always check with your pet’s veterinarian before using a collar or other product containing a pyrethroid; the size of your pet and the amount/type of pyrethroid application is extremely critical.

Never use pyrethroids on your cat unless it is specifically approved by your cat’s veterinarian. Current labeling does not permit use of pyrethroids on cats.
